Come summer, autumn or winter, a little boy is going to make the best of it.
Nothing is better than summer, swimming every day and eating ice cream. But a little boy's big sister has BIG news. She tells him that summer is going to end soon ... and winter is coming! When winter comes, she says, it will be cold ... and dark ... and rain all the time. They'll be stuck on the sofa for days and won't even dream of eating ice cream...
From author-illustrator Simona Ciraolo, this is a celebration of the changing of the seasons, showing just how much joy can be found around each sunny - or snowy - corner.
Dr. Christina says: ‘
We’ve been reading our new book ‘If Winter Comes, Tell It I'm Not Here’ as the days are getting shorter and the evenings darker.
These are the some of the things the main character’s sister tells him will happen when Summer ends, leaving him dreading the arrival of Winter. A chill in the air, no swimming, no ice cream, ‘everything will be SO dull and you’ll be SO cold’.
I think a lot of children, and adults, can relate to that feeling of apprehension in lots of different situations.
As is usually the case thankfully, when the time comes it isn’t as bad as expected, and in this story the boy really enjoys Winter and decides to make the most of it before it too ends. There is a lovely message in this book to take each day and season as they come and to enjoy them as change is always around the corner. Lots of children struggle with change so this sweet story reinforces the idea that change can be a good thing.’
