After their house is destroyed during the devastating London Blitz, Sophie and Hugh find themselves without a home. With their mother suffering from severe injuries and their father away at war, the siblings are forced to leave their familiar surroundings and seek refuge with their grandfather in Ireland. However, the prospect of living in an unfamiliar country with a stern and possibly unwelcoming grandfather raises many uncertainties for them. Will they be able to adapt to their new life and find a sense of belonging? And, most importantly, will their family ever be reunited again?
