The total communication journal is written by a special needs assistant whose aim is to bridge the gap between home and school communication for children with special educational needs.

It takes into account all aspects of
home, school and weekend life. This diary is a tool to improve communication between, teacher and parent but also teacher and student. Knowing if a child has had a bad night's sleep or didn't eat breakfast will allow the school to know that the child is not ready for the demands of school and therefore opportunity for movement or sensory breaks or more snack times can be organised for the benefit of the child.

Filling in the weekend rewind allows the school to learn about activities that happen outside of school, it is also a way for teachers to approach students and start a conversation with them about the events of their weekend. It is especially helpful for students who prefer closed-ended questions as the teacher will already know the information, we just need to ask them if it happened.

It has daily record pages for toileting, lunch and movement breaks along with the daily activities achieved. It also provides information from the parent to the teacher about the morning before school and how the evening prior went after school. It uses the range of emotion chart to depict your child's feelings throughout the day.

This is a parent-focused journal that will allow you to know how your child is feeling and what they are accomplishing in school.
